Sharp Systems of America announced general availability of the PC-UM20. The new slimline notebook adds a faster processor, 256MB standard memory and a choice of operating systems. The newest Sharp notebook provides mobile performance through a fusion of advanced technologies. Weighing less than three pounds and just 0.65″ thick(1), the PC-UM20 is designed to offer performance, durability and style.

Engineered for optimized mobile performance, the PC-UM20 utilizes the latest Intel Ultra Low Voltage (ULV) mobile processor. The 750 MHz Intel Pentium III processor uses SpeedStep technology, which reduces power consumption by automatically switching to a lower clock rate when running on battery, providing approximately three hours of operation with the standard battery and up to nine hours with the optional extended life battery(2).

To ensure durability for highly mobile users, the PC-UM20 was designed with a magnesium alloy display cover and aluminum alloy upper and lower casing and display frame. The housing is reinforced with a rigid magnesium frame inside the unit for maximum strength.

The PC-UM20’s retractable keyboard provides users with a 3 mm key stroke and 18 mm key pitch. The keys pop up when the notebook is open. Sharp’s proprietary anti-glare, low reflection (AGLR) LCD display has anti-glare processing and a low reflection coating designed to reduce reflected light and give a clear, bright display, even in bright settings.

For maximum flexibility, the PC-UM20’s 20 GB hard drive is preloaded with a choice of Microsoft operating systems. At the initial start-up the user selects between Microsoft Windows XP Pro and Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional.

The PC-UM20 comes with a one year Express Exchange limited warranty. Through this program, customers who require notebook repair receive a working notebook the next business day. In addition, all Sharp Systems customers receive free technical support, available 24 hours a day.

Pricing and Availability
Available immediately, the Sharp PC-UM20 is competitively priced with an estimated street price of $1,699.
