EZQuest began shipping its 48x12x48 FireWire CD-RW drive for Macs and PCs. The newest addition to its line of fast, high-performance drives, the device has an MSRP of $219.

According to the company, the new Boa drive can burn a 74-minute CD in 1.52 minutes (about 20% faster than 40x drives) and re-write a 74-minute CD in 6.1 minutes. Its 48x read speed may be the fastest available on a CD recorder, and its 2MB buffer size and buffer under-run technology are designed to eliminate under-run errors in fast-write modes.

The high-speed drives may be ideal for data archiving and desktop publishing, and for MIDI and recording studio applications. Compatible with both Macs and PCs, the Boa 48x may be moved from computer to computer without restarting or rebooting.

The Boa 48x is housed in a light-gray, streamlined case that is fully shielded with 0.6 metal. It includes a built-in universal 50-watt auto-switching power supply, a cable and software (Charismac for Mac and Nero for PC burning software).

The Boa 48x is compatible with Mac OS 86 plus later (9.2) and OSX versions, as well as WIN 98SE and later versions including XP. It has a one-year warranty and is priced at $219 MSRP. A downloadable Boa 48x spec sheet and a list of dealers are available at www.ezq.com.
