PCWorld: Samsung Wave Makes a Splash at Mobile World Congress

Samsung introduces the first phones using its own Bada mobile operating system. PCWorld is impressed, but is it just one choice too many for beleaguered small biz buyers?

“When Samsung announced that it was developing its own mobile operating system, one question came to mind: Do we really need another mobile OS? Whether we do or not, Samsung’s Bada OS has made its debut at Mobile World Congress on the new Samsung Wave handset. While I’m not yet sold on the software, the Wave has some pretty hard-to-ignore features.

For one, the Samsung Wave sports Samsung’s new Super AMOLED display technology. I’ve praised Samsung’s AMOLED phones in the past for their excellent viewing angles and vivid colors, but have been disappointed by their performance outdoors. According to Samsung, Super AMOLED fixes this: The technology offers a brighter, clearer and less reflective display. The Wave has a 3.3-inch display-a bit small compared to other smartphones on the market-with an 800-by-480-pixel resolution.”
