PCmag@Work (Small Business): Review – Microsoft Office Access 2010

Access 2010 is the best version yet of the Microsoft database program yet, but it still isn’t as good as competitors such as FileMaker Pro, the reviewer says.

“Microsoft Access 2010, the database component of Office 2010, marks a big departure for the application. Instead of being built to create desktop and Web applications, Access 2010 strives to ease database design for non-programmers by allowing users to get sophisticated applications on the Web up with ease.

New features allow databases to be published to the Web, and it’s easier to do complex tasks like macros and calculated fields. However, it’s dependent on SharePoint server to use the full feature set. Access 2010 is the best version of its database software that Microsoft has released, but doesn’t out do better options such as Alpha Software’s Alpha Five v10 and our Editors’ Choice Filemaker’s Filemaker Pro. But if you already have Office 2010 can you stick with Access 2010 or pay extra for a stand alone database act? Check out our full-review of Access 2010 at PCMag.com.”
