Review: Google Desktop Search Engine

Aug 31, 2010

PCWorld: Review – Google Desktop Search Engine

Desktop search tools let you find stuff fast on your hard drive. Since Microsoft’s built-in search tools in Windows improved, third-party tools like this one have arguably become less important, but may provide a productivity edge for small business employees with lots of data to search.

“Google, like Exalead, builds its desktop search experience around a browser. In the case of Google, however, it has an advantage because Desktop generally matches Google’s Web search experience.

This free application provides full-text searching of Outlook, Outlook Express, Netscape and Thunderbird e-mail; Word, Excel and PowerPoint files; and PDFs, images and video. As such, it covers many essential sources of information, but clearly less than other products.”
