The new NAS devices use more robust enterprise-grade SATA drives and come with a five-year warranty. Capacities range from 2 to 12 TB, prices from $699 to $3,999.

“Netgear last week announced the ReadyNAS Pro family of business storage products designed to make storage and backup easier for small and mid-sized businesses. The new Pro family of network attached storage (NAS) will be available in two-bay, four-bay, and six-bay desktop systems, and offers a good complement to the Business version of the ReadyNAS, which are available in rack-mounted formats for data closets or larger infrastructure deployments.

Drew Meyer, director of storage marketing at Netgear explained that the new ReadyNAS Pro appliance was designed and built with business users in mind, and not for consumers or power users. ‘This product family is designed specifically for companies with less than 500 employees, as well as other businesses, seeking “smart IT” solutions,’ says Meyer, noting that the company has focused on reliability, simplicity and affordability, stressing that the latter two are absent from hardware geared for what he calls ‘Big IT.'”
