PCmag@Work (Small Business): Google Apps Admins Can Control Policy Enforcement on Phones

“Policy enforcement lets big businesses make sure systems that connect to the corporate network are allowed and behaving themselves. But what happens when that data is all in the cloud, like for companies that are using Google Apps? Google began to address this with items like a Connector for BlackBerry Enterprise Server, and the Google Sync ability for phones like the Nokia E Series, the iPhone, and devices running Windows Mobile. As of today, the admins running Google Apps Premier and Education Edition get even more control.

In fact, what can be accessed in Google Apps by those latter handsets (iPhone, Nokia E, and Windows Mobile) can be managed right from the Google Apps admin control panel. It doesn’t require any special software on the devices, yet the admins can remotely wipe all Google Apps data on the handhelds the next time a lost/stolen device tries to sync, can lock the handset out after a certain amount of inactivity, and can require a password with a minimum length and strength.”
