Data Growth Doubles Down Around the World

Jun 29, 2011

How much digital data will your small business generate this year? Maybe an even more important question to ask is, how much will that data increase next year…and the next…and the next? According to research by IDC, the amount of electronic data collected world-wide is increasing at a staggering rate; it’s doubling every two years.

This reality affects businesses both big and small, and as a small business owner, if you’re not thinking about ways to manage your data storage, you might want to start that process sooner rather than later.

The good news, according to our colleagues at InfoStor, is that while storage management needs are rising rapidly, the cost of managing and storing data is decreasing. Check out the story by clicking the link below.

Users will create and replicate 1.8 trillion gigabytes of data — some 1.8 zettabytes — this year, according to the latest IDC Digital Universe study entitled, “Extracting Value from Chaos.”

To put that into visual perspective, according to the study, that is the equivalent of filling 57.2 billion 32 GB Apple iPads, which could be used to build “the Great iPad Wall of China — at twice the average height of the original.”
