Xerox Sets MFP Phaser on SMB

Xerox is a name synonymous with quality copying and printing but generally not so much with budget and affordability. Small businesses may have aspired to own Xerox but often had to settle for more reasonably priced office equipment. That’s changed in the last year, with the company making a concerted effort to court the small biz market. Today’s announcement of a $399 black-and-white desktop multifunction printer reiterates that commitment.

The Xerox Phaser 3200MFP’s print, copy, fax and color scanning features fit into a machine sized to accommodate both the width of your desk and the depth of your wallet. At 24.7 pounds, the MFP measures a relatively dainty 17.2- x 14.7- x 15.2 inches. But Peter Haldeman, Xerox product manager, said not to let its small size fool you.

“The 3200 MFP is a great option for a small business that wants to transition from a regular printer to a multi-function machine,” he said. “It has a more powerful processor than you typically find in this class, which means it can easily handle the professional demands of a small office or work group.”

Xerox offers two versions of the all-in-one printer: the 3200MFP/B (for basic) and the 3200MFP/N (for networking). Both machines offer the following print features:

In addition to the features listed above, the 3200MFP/N includes all 3200MFP/B features plus Ethernet network printing, postscript, Mac support, network scan-to-PC, scan to e-mail, CentreWare IS and CentreWare Web, fax forward to e-mail.

Haldeman said that the MFPs’ toner cartridge yields 3,000 pages at approximately five percent coverage, and that these two all-in-ones are designed to handle a monthly print volume of 1,500 pages.

Haldeman noted that the 3200MFP offers strong fax capabilities with security options not normally found in an MFP at this price. “We designed the 3200MFP to be capable enough to replace a stand-alone fax machine,” he said. “It includes 4MB of dedicated fax memory, and the Secure Fax Receive feature lets you keep incoming faxes in the MFP until you enter a PIN to release them.” The all-in-one also let you direct incoming faxes straight to e-mail, a feature Haldeman said helps to keep the faxed information private.

Although the 3200MFP is a monochrome printer, you can scan in color. Other scanning features include
