The ubiquitous wireless phones and personal digital assistants (PDAs) are must-have tools. But wouldn’t it be more convenient to have both in one device? Earlier dual-purpose models were heavy, slow, and very expensive. Sprint PCS and LG InfoComm have put together a phone/PDA that not only works well, but is presented in a compact and lightweight package.
At first glance, a Sprint PCS TP3000 looks like a regular wireless phone with access to the phone book, call history, and display/sound settings. But there’s a surprise to this phone. Flip up the keypad and there’s a full-featured PDA with a 12-line display screen. Use the plastic stylus or the rocker-type button at the bottom to select various functions such as: Datebook, browser, contacts, messages, to-do list, call history, PC sync, memo pad, sketch pad, phone, or calculator. The buttons on the outside of the phone are few and simple. The number one key is thevoice and text messages. One feature we appreciated is the speakerphone. It’s easy to turn on and is loud and clear. It works best if the phone is placed on a hard surface. If you haven’t already purchased a PDA, this could be the one to buy. Consider the PCS phone as an extra benefit thrown in for free.
