EVault Offers Data-Protection Services

As the adage says, acknowledging that you have a problem is the first step toward solving it. But it’s one thing to know that you need to protect your company’s critical data and another thing entirely to create a plan, test it to make sure it works, and then put it into action.

On the off chance that you’re not an IT genius with scads of free time disguised as a mild-mannered deli owner, EVault, a hosted backup provider and data protection company, has come out with a package of professional services designed to help small businesses keep their data safe and secure.

EVault designed its Disaster Recovery Service Offerings to help companies systematically create, test and implement data-protection plans to make sure they can return to business as quickly as possible in the event of a disaster or data loss.

Skewed Priorities
A recent survey from AT&T found that 40 percent of the 1,200 respondents do not consider business continuity planning a priority. Other survey findings include:

  • almost two-thirds of companies that suffered a disaster experienced lost business
  • sixteen percent lost between $100,000 and $500,000 per day and 26 percent admit they don’t know how much it cost their company per day
  • more than 40 percent of companies have not established redundant servers or backup sites for their critical business functions
  • nearly one-third of companies have not implemented basic security technology, such as firewalls, intrusion detection or password authentication

According to Tony Barbagallo, senior vice president of market at EVault, small businesses experience many of the same data protection issues that big companies do. “A lot of small companies work in industries that require regulatory compliance, and they need to store every e-mail or instant message in order to comply,” he said. “This is especially true in the legal, financial and medical fields. The problem is that small businesses don’t have the IT staff or the expertise to create, test and implement a reliable data protection plan. That’s where our formalized packages can help.”

Be Prepared
EVault’s four main services include: Implementation Services, Data Protection Planning, Disaster Recovery Testing Services and Disaster Recovery Services.

Implementation Services: On-site consultants review your company’s current data protection status and develop a deployment strategy for the new plan.

Data Protection Planning: Create a data protection and disaster recovery plan (an actual document) that’s tailored to meet your company’s specific needs and regulatory requirements.

Disaster Recovery Testing Services: Determine recovery time objectives (i.e., how much downtime can you tolerate), conduct disaster recovery tests and document performance and results

Disaster Recovery Services: Provide 24x7x365 online and/or onsite support, assist with restoration and verification procedures and direct coordination with EVault staff Barbagallo said that testing is a crucial component of any data backup plan. “When a company can’t get its data back, the culprit is typically the original set up — and no one ever tested it to make sure it worked properly. EVault tests the plan, documents what’s being backed up and where it’s being sent. We also test the restore to make sure the data comes back intact.”

Pricing

  • Implementation Services start at $100 per server
  • Data Protection Planning Solutions start at $2400
  • Disaster Recovery Testing Package starts at $1500
