Greencomputer Innovation, a developer of server appliances, announced new features that may improve the means by which small and medium sized businesses protect mission-critical content on their networks. These new security measures may help to combat network attacks that include intrusions, external attacks, and DoS/DDoS (denial of service).

The company’s Intrusion Detection System (IDS) is designed to continually analyze network traffic, and look for violations of the rules and make key security decisions based on those violations. The IDS is based on SNORT, which currently has over half a million users and is an open source product that has the backing of an extensive community of programmers and users.

According to the company, benefits of its PowerElf IDS are:

1.The IDS will adapt the firewall preventing hackers access to the server and network for a specific length of time.

2.Provides real-time logging and alerts.

3.Easy to understand web reports provide detailed information about the attempted attacks.

4.Easy installation.

The optional IDS update is free for all PowerElf customers.

PowerElf server appliances also provide VPN, a packet-filtering firewall, RAID disk mirroring, file and print services, web and email servers, caching and Internet sharing features. PowerElf server prices start at $1699.
