First Look: PowerConnect 3048

Dell announced availability of its PowerConnect 3048 for U.S. customers who need Gigabit Ethernet performance in a switch that offers flexible stacking and comprehensive management features.

The Dell PowerConnect 3048 is a 48-port Fast Ethernet switch that includes two copper Gigabit Ethernet ports and two fiber Gigabit Ethernet slots, which can be used simultaneously. The switch is one rack-unit high (1U), rack-mountable and stackable. It can be managed via an embedded Web server or third-party management console applications using open-management standards.

With the PowerConnect 3048, Dell says that it now offers three managed and four unmanaged switches to meet the varied needs of small and medium business customers. The new product will be fully stackable and compatible with the PowerConnect 3024, which has been shipping since September 2001. All switches include Dell service and support.
