HP, TSYS Launch New Point-of-Sale Solutions for SMBs

Both HP and TSYS recently introduced new point-of-sale offerings for small businesses, including new hardware and a new cloud-based solution.

HP Engage One Prime

HP announced the HP Engage One Prime, an all-in-one solution designed specifically for small and medium sized retail and hospitality businesses. The company also announced a strategic collaboration with PayPal to offer small businesses a complete end-to-end solution of hardware, point-of-sale software and payment processing.

“To effectively compete in today’s market, small and medium-sized retailers and hospitality operators need more than a cash register and a storefront, they want solutions that enable them to improve customer experiences in their retail and hospitality environments,” HP vice president and general manager for retail solutions Aaron Weiss said in a statement.

HP Engage One Prime, available next month, leverages Android 8.1 and runs on a multi-core heterogenous Qualcomm APQ8053 processor. A variety of CPU speed, memory and storage options are available.

The solution includes a 14-inch diagonal full HD touchscreen that tilts and flips between the sales associate and the customer. Built-in peripherals include a magnetic stripe reader and NFC, as well as a camera-based scanner for QR codes. An optional integrated customer-facing display is also available, and optional peripherals include a receipt printer, barcode scanner, fingerprint reader, cash drawer, and iButton reader.

In collaboration with PayPal, HP is offering a complete point-of-sale solution including HP Engage One Prime with a range of peripherals; a PayPal payment device that accepts chip, tap and swipe payments, and an HP Warranty, with additional support and service from PayPal.

Vital POS

TSYS recently launched Vital, a new brand of payment products specifically targeting SMBs. The initial offering, the cloud-based point-of-sale solution Vital POS, leverages technology and other assets recently acquired from iMobile3. The offering includes three products: Vital Mobile, Vital Plus and Vital Select.

Vital Mobile, which runs on a business owner’s Android or iOS phone or tablet with an inexpensive EMV card reader, is designed for mobile merchants seeking an affordable and straightforward payment platform.

Vital Plus is designed to replace countertop payment terminals and electronic cash registers, with improved control and reporting. The solution includes a 5-inch touchscreen, barcode scanner and thermal receipt printer, and is capable of accepting  swipe, chip or contactless payments.

Vital Select, available with an 8-inch or 15.6-inch touchscreen, provides brick and mortar retailers with a full-featured POS system along with a range of peripherals including a customer facing display, receipt printer, barcode scanner, magnetic stripe reader, chip card reader, NFC reader, PIN pad and cash drawer.

All three products provide analytics and reporting, inventory management, taxes, time clock and employee management, and discounts and pricing functionality.
