Small Business Marketing: Tapping the Aloha Spirit

You’re in for a real treat this week. We’ve got part two of Andrew Lock’s Hawaiian adventures in small business marketing. (If you missed part one, it’s worth taking the time to watch it now).

A very genuine, one-on-one interview with one of Maui’s top small business owners clearly demonstrates that providing a great product and delivering great customer service results in massive success. It’s interesting how such a simple and obvious concept seems to elude so many business owners.

In this second, special episode from the beautiful Hawaiian island of Maui, I interview David Yamashiro, owner of Ululani’s — the most successful shave ice stores in Maui. In fact, on TripAdvisor.com, Ululani’s has the incredible achievement of being the number one “restaurant” in the United States! It’s a similar story on Yelp, where Ululani’s also has the top spot. This shows the power of rave reviews on niche social networking sites.

Of course, you have to have (a) a great product and (b) outstanding customer service and David has put a lot of time and energy into making sure those two areas are constantly monitored.

I think you’ll find the interview practical and enjoyable; it’s a great success story from a relatively new business, and it shows what you can accomplish with a vision, implementation and attention to detail.
