Adobe Photoshop 6.0
Rating 90

Adobe has been the leader in the image-processing arena for so long, it's hard to remember a time when there were any other truly viable alternatives. Adobe Photoshop 6.0 offers a host of new features.

Many veterans know the frustrations of dealing with the multiple palettes and the floating toolbars. While palettes are still abound in 6.0, major improvements make them more manageable. A new context-sensitive Options Bar is the new home for each tools' various features and even "hidden" options. No more trips to multiple tabbed palettes.

The layer palette had an overhaul too. All types of layers are created through easily accessible tabs on the Layers palette and update in real time at the change of a slider or radio button.

Version 6.0 also includes the upgrade that Photoshop users have been clamoring for, real-time editable text. The Option Bar contains powerful formatting including character and paragraph controls.

The program is still hampered by the need to toggle between Photoshop and ImageReady. But thanks to the new enhancements, Photoshop 6.0 is without a doubt the strongest improvement to the program yet.
