SmallBusinessComputing Excellence in Technology Awards

The year is coming to an end, and we know you’re wrapped up in closing the books for 2007 or planning on how to cash in on holiday shopping. However, we ask you to take a short break to help us honor the hardware, software and services that brought a smile to your face in 2007.

Based on the nominations you submitted — and input from the editors of Small Business Computing, ECommerce-Guide, Webopedia, WinPlanet, PDAStreet, SmartPhoneToday, VoIP Planet, HardwareCentral and other JupiterOnlineMedia sites — we’ve narrowed down the field to between three and five finalists in 25 categories.

Those 25 categories feature staples such as servers and accounting software, but also cover new ground to represent the impact of widgets, social networking and other Web-based tools.

No product or technology will overcome a poor business model or unfavorable market conditions, but the right tools can sure make your job a lot easier. We don’t have to tell you that small businesses don’t have the luxury to experiment with new products. Most small businesses simply don’t have the time or resources to not get it right the first time. So please take a few minutes and cast your vote in the categories that apply to your purchases in the past year. Consider it your holiday gift to fellow business owners and managers.

Polls close at midnight EST on January 8, 2008. We’ll announce the winners on January 22, 2008.
