APC’s New Back-Up Power Systems

American Power Conversion (APC) introduced a trio of new power supply products that could keep your small business running even when the electricity isn’t. The Back-UPS ES 725 is a complete broadband power protection solution for home office networking equipment. For even more desktop computing power, APC now offers the Back-UPS RS 1000VA and 1500VA uninterruptible power supplies.

The Back-UPS ES 725 offers high-level surge protection for high-speed Internet lines including cable modem, digital subscriber line, telephone, Ethernet, and single line phone ports or fax modem systems. There’s enough battery backup for a desktop PC, monitor, hub and router in case of a power failure. The unit provides up to 60 minutes of runtime and eight outlets to accommodate several peripherals — all for under a hundred dollars.

The Back-UPS ES 725 comes equipped with universal serial bus connectivity and includes APC’s PowerChute Personal Edition software — an easy-to-use shutdown software system with power management functions for use with Windows XP, ME and 98, as well as and Macintosh OS X operating systems.

Eight high-powered outlets — four battery plus surge outlets and four surge-only outlets — provide protection for additional desktop peripherals. APC’s new Back-UPS ES 725 is currently available in North America and carries a suggested retail price of $99.99

The Back-UPS RS 1000VA and 1500VA units offer more outlets, automatic voltage regulation (AVR), and a longer runtime in a small, versatile footprint giving users enough power to protect more than one PC and multiple peripherals. In addition, an extra battery pack can be added to the 1500VA unit to triple the runtime capabilities.

The AVR feature enables users to work through just about any power condition by supplying safe, consistent power to a computer in case of a power surge or brownout. Both units provide eight outlets — six for surge protection and battery backup and two for surge protection only.

The Back-UPS RS units offer a compact design that can be positioned on the floor or placed under the monitor on the desktop. The UPS offers user replaceable batteries and incorporates an intelligent battery management system that maximizes battery performance and reliability. Both units come with APC’s PowerChute software.

The Back-UPS RS 1000 unit will supply up to 90 minutes of runtime for a typical computer system and the Back-UPS RS 1500 will supply up to 120 minutes of runtime. These runtimes give users the ability to work through most outages and have plenty of time to save programs and shutdown safely. Additionally, the Back-UPS RS 1500 unit can extend its runtime to 360 minutes with a purchase of an extra battery pack.

APC’s new Back-UPS RS 1000 and 1500 units are currently available in North America and carry a suggested retail price of $249.99 and $299.99
