eMarketer has revised its forecast for e-commerce growth upward after two years of subpar growth. Read the original marketing report.
"eMarketer is forecasting U.S. ecommerce will grow rapidly over the next five years reaching $224 billion in 2014. The chart below is from their most recent forecast report.
The forecast is in part based on the growing ubiquity of Internet use for researching product and service purchases. Interesting quote from eMarketer: 'This year, 162 million people in the US will research products online, and much of this research will lead to in-store purchases. Over 82% of online researchers, or 133 million people, will be online buyers. The percent of online buyers will rise as young Internet users, predisposed to e-commerce, replace older users.'"
