Marketing Tips: How to Promote Any Business

Andrew Lock

It’s time for another episode of unconventional marketing wisdom from Andrew Lock, our favorite entrepreneur and small business marketing guru. Sit back and take a lesson from a man who knows how to make a business stand out from the crowd — and to have fun doing it.

I’m not a fan of conventional advertising; I believe it’s a complete waste of money most of the time. There are occasional exceptions, and I’ll show you some examples during this episode.

In this week’s question I came across an excuse that I hear from different people every week. It’s, “but my business is different – your marketing strategies won’t work in my field”. This makes me both smile and cringe at the same time.

I smile because it’s funny how so many people think their business is unique and different, and I cringe because these people just don’t get it. People are people, regardless of the niche, and buyers are buyers regardless of the niche.

I discovered a cool tool to spice up your copy writing. It’s called CopyDoodles, from CopyBoosters, and it’s a collection of hand drawn images that you can include in a sales letter, whether its online or offline.

The big marketing lesson this week comes from Delta Airlines. I know, what am I doing recommending an airline?! Delta did something that surprised me, and it turned out to be an excellent marketing lesson for all.

Finally on this episode, stay tuned for an interview with Travis Miller and Jimmy Vee from Bad for Business, the new show on GotBiz.tv.

You'll find lots more marketing tips and resources from Andrew Lock in our Small Business Essential series, Lock in Your Marketing Resources.

Andrew Lock is a self-described maverick marketer and the creator and host of Help! My Business Sucks, a free, weekly Web TV show full of practical marketing tips, advice and resources to help small businesses "get more done and have more fun."
