The report, from research firm Storage Strategies NOW, says many SMBs generate volumes of data disproportionate to number of employees. They often can't find affordable storage solutions anywhere but the cloud.
"Small and mid-sized businesses are turning to cloud services as they find themselves underserved by traditional vendors that provide data-protection hardware and services, claims a new research report. Conducted by research firm Storage Strategies NOW (SSG-NOW), the study titled "Data Protection and Recovery in the Small and Mid-sized Business" found a disconnect between the size of SMBs and the data they are generating; meaning that some SMBs are generating far more data than the number of employees might indicate.
The results were obtained through a number of sources such as vendor questionnaires and interviews, interactions with regular SMB end users and managed service providers, as well as publicly available market data. Also taken into consideration were 'more than 30 years of combined analysis of the data protection market' says SSG-NOW."
