First Look: Gateway’s $999 Budget Notebook

Gateway, Inc. introduced its Solo 1450 notebook computer a $999 system that comes with a one-year warranty and service and support. According to the company, the new notebook is perfect for small office and home office business users, and students who want a computer that they can take with them for productivity and entertainment.

Features include 15.0-inch or 14.1-inch high-resolution displays; Intel Pentium III or Celeron 1.2GHz Mobile processor; and 128MB of SDRAM, expandable to 512MB. Customers who want to play games and music may appreciate the Solo 1450’s Intel 4x AGP graphics along with their choice of DVD, CD-RW or DVD/CD-RW combo drive. The Gateway Solo 1450 is available with Microsoft Windows XP, Home or Professional Edition, and Microsoft Works Suite 2001 or Office XP Small Business Edition.

The Solo 1450 offers various connectivity options. There’s an optional integrated wireless feature that uses Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11b) technology, an integrated V.92 56K modem and integrated 10/100 Ethernet. The Solo 1450 weighs 6.16 pounds and is 1.28-inch thin.
