Codeproof Launches Mobile Device Management for SMBs

By Pedro Hernandez | Posted November 20, 2012

Codeproof is setting out to alleviate bring-your-own-device (BYOD) challenges for small and midsized businesses (SMBs) with the launch its cloud-based mobile device management (MDM) and security products platform. And while most cloud providers and online services don't publicize the identity of their underlying cloud infrastructure providers, Codeproof isn't shy about letting the world that its services are anchored by Amazon Elastic Cloud.

If you can reach Amazon's industry-leading cloud services, you can protect your mobile devices. "The Codeproof service is hosted on Amazon EC2 cloud, providing the highest level of readiness and scalability protection against cyber threats anytime, anywhere," says the company.

Combining Mobile Security, Mobile Management in the Cloud

Codeproof's software-as-a-service (SaaS) offering combines cloud-based mobile security, MDM and mobile applications management (MAM) into a package that helps small business IT managers come to grips with the flood of smartphones and tablets -- either personal or company-owned -- that access and store business data.

Enterprises generally have well-staffed IT departments to handle the crush of Android smartphones and iPads invading the workforce. But small businesses are pretty much on their own, says Codeproof CEO Satish Shetty.

"When it comes to mobile security, small and mid-sized businesses are lost, and most of them simply ignore key mobile security protection," Shetty says in a company statement.  The reason for this, he added, is that SMBs, "lack in-house expertise and the required resources to protect their mobile computing assets, including their mobile devices and apps,"

The Codeproof SMB suite offers mobile antivirus and other security-enhancing features for Android and iOS mobile devices, like app restrictions and directory-based policy management. It helps businesses minimize the impact of lost or stolen devices with capabilities that include device lock, remote wipe, and encryption.

Small business IT pros can also keep an eye on mobile device telemetry and asset management. Remote configuration options include virtual private networks (VPNs), Wi-Fi and email. Codeproof also supports over-the-air profile installation on iOS devices.

A Web-based dashboard provides reporting and security alerts, including jail-break detection. Mobile app management and app distribution tools round out the feature set.

The Codeproof suite is available now. Prices start at $2.99 per device per month.
